The Duplicate Files Based on Content Report is a bit more complicated then the other two reports.
However, it is not that different once you examine the left side and understand what each entry means.
Like the other two Duplicate File Reports, it utilizes a two sided view which allows you to quickly examine the
state of duplicate files on your system by summarizing each occurrence of a duplicate condition.
The difference is that the files are not identified "by name" on the left side of the report.
They are identified by file size.

Looking at the example below, you will see multiple entries for files Of Size 1,078.
The next column indicates that there are 2 of them with a total size of 2,156.  What this is telling us is that
there are two files which are each 1,078 bytes long that have the same content. The files
listed in the second (and third and fourth, etc) line of the Duplicate Summary represent another
set of two files which are "also" 1,078 which happen to be identical to each other.

Using the currently selected highlighted row in the Duplicate Summary, we examine the content of
the associated Duplicate File Matches and we see that the two files identified as having identical content
are called MSDN.ICO and MSDN1.ICO.  In most cases, you will find that the file names are the same
but occasionally you will find a situation such as the one shown below which correctly identifies
differently named files as being duplicates of each other.  As a further test, since the icon format
is a supported format for graphics viewing within the program, we have launched the Space Hound 32
Image Viewer
and we can use the Previous and Next buttons to quickly flip between the two images
in our list of Duplicate File Matches.

A search by Based on Content is somewhat time consuming and should probably only be used with
some additional selection criteria.  An excellent usage for this tool is for pruning multimedia files such
as sounds and images and music files.

By using the mouse to click once on a column header, you can sort the display in any order desired.
This allows you to focus your time on the files which consume the most room or are the most numerous.
After all, with today's 20 and 30 gigabyte disk drives, saving 50k here and there isn't even worth the
bother. Space Hound 32 helps you concentrate on the really big waste so that you can get back
to using your computer instead of managing it.
