Space Hound 32
includes a set of pre-defined disk space recovery
functions which allow you to delete unnecessary files
from your computer. This is similar to functions offered
on many other competing products. You should be aware of
the ramifications of using these automated functions.
Launching this program function causes a window to
appear with a set of options which you can choose from.

*.TMP files on all Default Drives
Many windows application use the extension *.TMP to indicate that a file is temporary. These files can normally be deleted at anytime unless they are currently in use. As a safety precaution, Space Hound 32 will only delete .TMP files which have a creation date prior to the current date.
*.BAK files on all Default Drives
Many windows application use the extension *.BAK to indicate that a file is a backup copy of a required file. These files can normally be deleted but you should be cautious using this specification. As a safety precaution, Space Hound 32 will only delete .BAK files which have a creation date prior to the current date.*.GID files on all Default Drives
Many windows application online Help Files. Files with the extension *.GID are Help File indexes which allow you to search a help file on a specific word. These files are generated (if necessary) when you access help to perform a search. Since many help file may never be accessed or rarely accessed, deleting these files on a regular basis can conserve some disk space. As a safety precaution, Space Hound 32 will only delete .GID files which have a creation date prior to the current date.
*.* Where the File Size = ZERO
Empty files do take up space on your hard drive. If your drive is un-partitioned then you may be losing several thousand bytes of disk space for each empty file.
The presence of an empty file may be necessary for certain applications. These files can normally be deleted but you should be cautious using this specification. As a safety precaution, Space Hound 32 will only delete empty files which have a creation date prior to the current date.
Note: One instance of empty files occurs when certain Microsoft applications are installed. MSCREATE.DIR (a 0-byte hidden file) is created in each folder that the Setup program creates to indicate that the folder was created by Setup. When you run Setup in maintenance mode and remove a component or click Remove All, Setup uses this file to determine whether an empty folder can be removed. If an empty folder does not contain this file, when you run Setup in maintenance mode, Setup will not remove this folder.
For example, if you create the folder My Files in the Microsoft Office folder, when you run Microsoft Office Setup in maintenance mode and click Remove All, the My Files folder is not removed by Setup, even if it is empty when you run Setup. When the option to delete empty files is selected, you have the option of also deleting the MSCREATE.DIR entries or leaving them alone.
