Shown below is the result of a search across all files on the computer.  Nothing was excluded. In design, the display is separated into a left side tree structure showing the directories (also called File Folders) on your system.  The left side will show the files which are located within the directory selected on the right.

Available features from the button bar include:

  • a directory report with nested sub-directories as shown in the display

  • a directory report (see directory grid display at the bottom of this form)

  • a files report

  • a user customizable files report based on grid settings

  • an export function

  • a file viewer linked to the built-in QucikView viewers

  • a file launch tool

  • file management functions which allow for moving, copying, or zip archiving files

  • bit by bit file comparison tool

  • delete button

  • the ability to switch between a tree view and a sortable grid view

The directory tree below shows two numeric values in brackets in front of each directory name.

For example:
  [52K / 9918k] icons

This tells us that the icons folder itself contains 52k (approximately 52,000) characters of information and that embedded within the directory is one or more nested directories where the combined total of used space is 9,918K (approximately 10 million) characters.

Looking for large storage usage at the directory level is another key technique in identifying possible wasted space.  It also allows you to focus your time to directories that contain significant amounts of data.

One unique feature of the directory map display is the ability to change the left side from a tree structure to a sortable grid which includes file counts as well as the size of the files.
