The File Extensions Report is a great way to learn about the types of files you have on your systems. The three letter file extension is frequently used to designate not only the type of file that it is, it is used to designate which application is used to open the file.
The display is separated into a left and right hand side. The left side lists each file extension that was found by the search dialog as well as the number of files and total size in bytes that the files consume. The right hand side of the display shows all of the files found with the currently highlighted file type. In the example below, the selected type was OCX and our search found 227 files of this type.
This display can also provide space savings as well. By sorting the left side of the display we can find out which file types occur most frequently on our systems. You may find that all of those MP3 files are taking up more room then you thought.
As a user, you should learn about the most common types. Space Hound 32 can help you learn about your system by identifying virtually all common file types and many obscure ones
Available features from the button bar include:
a report by File Extension
a files report
a user customizable files report based on grid settings
an export function
a file viewer linked to the built-in QuikView viewers
a file launch tool
file management functions which allow for moving, copying, or zip archiving files
bit by bit file comparison tool
delete button

Hints & Tips: Several of the displays used in Space Hound 32 are based on this two sided model where the left side provides a summary of the files selected and the right side is used to show the individual files which make up the highlighted selection on the left.
In this example, ActiveX Controls (Extension type OCX) has been selected in the left view pane. There were 280 instances of this file type which met the search criteria.
In the example above, the file COMCT332.OCX has been selected in the right view pane. You will see a brief identification about this particular file below the file list. Where possible, file version information is displayed along with the internal description.
When more information is required, simply Right Click on the file name and a popup menu with extended information is displayed.

This PopUp Menu also allows you to manipulate the selected file in other ways making Space Hound 32 a complete File Management System with the tools you need to manage your disk drives.
