Space Hound 4 - [ Dependency Tool ]

Dependency Tool

When the Dependency Tool is processed, a text file containing a database of all dependencies including the program or program component that depends on the individual dependency.

This is a static file and should be rebuilt from time to time depending upon how often you install, update, or remove applications from your computer.

Please note that file dependency is only an educated guess because an application usually does not specify a specific location for files that it needs in order to run.  Typically, an application will look within it's own application folder for any files that it needs.  If the file cannot be found, it looks to the operating system or the environment search paths for it.  If it can't be found there, it usually won't be able to find it at all.

The dependency list is not 100% comprehensive because some applications use a technique to load a specific instance in a designated folder.  Also, some dependencies cannot be detected without actually running the program.

Tip: You can catch some of these by having the application running when you load Space Hound's Pending Deletes List.  This will not permanently add the file to the Dependency tool however it may see it as an Active component when you load the Pending Deletes List.

Program resource files such as images, information (INI) files, databases, etc are not considered dependencies and won't be included in the Dependency Database. However, if these files are deleted, it is possible that a specific program may fail to launch or run properly.
