Pending Deletes - Typically, any program that is used to delete files simply deletes the file, with perhaps an option to have the file sent to the Recycle Bin. Previous versions of Space Hound operated this way.
In this new version, files are not actually deleted when you select the Delete function from one of the displays. These selected files are placed on a list for further review.
The list is cumulative so you can search for and mark files for deletion on one day, restart the program the following day and all of the selected items can be seen on the Pending Deletes List.
Note: Read about File Delete Cautions.
Note: The Trial Version has a restriction applied to the Pending Deletes List. See Trail Version Limitations.
From there, you can make final disposition decisions.
These include the following options:
- Remove selected items from the Pending Deletes List
- Remove selected items from the Pending Deletes List where a Caution warning has been assigned.
- Send the items to a zip archive followed by their actually deletion
- Move the files to a designated archive location
- Copy the files to any location
- Print a report on all files in the Pending Deletes List
- Delete the files under one of several methods. These methods include
- Deletion to the Recycle Bin
- Just Delete (no recycle bin)
- Secure Delete - this is used to insure that casual access of your hard drive will not reveal portions of the original file. This is accomplished by overwriting the entire file space with zeros, replacing the original content. After this has completed, then the file is deleted. Note: Files deleted this way cannot be restored from the recycle bin in their original state.
