About File Delete Cautions
As the Pending Deletes List is being loaded and displayed, a series of evaluations is performed against each file in the list. Deleting an important file can lead to severe consequences including failure to start or programs that won't work. For additional background, refer to About Duplicate Files.
You can remove all files that contain one or more Cautions using the Explorer Bar Menu shown to the left of the Pending Deletes List.
File Cautions Issued
Protected - The file is identified by the operating system as a Windows Protected File. These files should never be deleted.
Shared - The file is identified as a Registered Shared DLL and has been specifically designated by one or more application installation programs. If all programs that use this file are uninstalled, the file is removed from the list of Registered Shared DLLs.
Active - The file is identified by the operating system as a currently in-use program or a dependency of an active program.
Dependency - The file is identified as a required dependency of some other program or program component. Note: Use of this Caution depends upon having first created the Dependency Tool.
