Default settings for File Searches and Duplicate File Searches are set on the Program Options form (See Set Program Options on Main Form). The program installs with these defaults.
Temporary Internet Files - You are going to have thousands of these files in your Internet Cache as your traverse the Web. Normally, we don't want to compicate our searches by including them. Also, there is a tool within Space Hound (See Cleanup Common Wasted Space) for purging them.
Windows Folders - These are part of the operating system. By default, we exclude these form Duplicate File Searches only. In most cases, they shouldn't be deleted anyway.
Program Files - Don't delete Program Files - Uninstall them instead. As above, we might want to Search for them but not when we're collecting duplicate files.
Recycle Bin and Pending Deletes - Usually, you wouldn't want to search the Recycle Bin anyway. Pending Deletes are files found by Space Hound that you have elected to DELETE but have not yet confirmed the delete. This is a major topic and you should read about it here.
Exclude these Folders - You can designate individual folders to be excluded from either Duplicate Searches or All Searches. This is useful for bypassing files belonging to other users who use your machine such as their temporary internet files and documents.
Folder selection within Space Hound can be highly detailed in that you can select individual folders without selecting parent folders.
